Hello from Cedar Rock base camp my new home. I'm now about 1 hour outside of Asheville and living at the base camp where I'll be for the summer. It is in the middle of the Pisgah national forest and it is great. There are about 20 people living here right now but a lot of them will be going out into the field during the summer where I'll be mostly home staff. Meaning I'm going to spend a lot of time at base and traveling and meeting crews at rock sites, the river and stuff like that. Community living is fun, sometimes I flash back to my time living in Dean at Albion. Everyone here is really quite awesome and I'm having a great time with them. The days are full with work but it doesn't seem like I'm working since I'm outside right at the base of the mountain and just having a great time. Everyone here really knows how to work hard but also play hard at the same time which is nice. I have my own little space in a room in the uptown block on camp. Its nice that I have a place to just chill even if I won't get to spend much time in it, I like knowing that its there. There are a ton of guitar players here and people who do climbing and whitewater and pretty much anything you can think of so I'm going to be able to learn a lot which is exactly what I was looking to get out of the summer. Keith (another intern) and I went out for a mountain biking ride this afternoon after work and before dinner. There are a ton of trails right on basecamp so its really easy just to hop on the bike and get some great scenes and great trails... definitely diff from Orlando. I'm tired though, a ton of hills which is REALLY different from FL. I just heard that there is a fun run going on tomorrow morning at 630 not sure I'm going to jump on that bandwagon. Outward bound is really into physical fitness so we are full of runs and pull up contests and games and anything you can think of. I better be in great shape by the end of the summer.
But anyways I need to get going. I'm sharing the net with a ton of other people so I dont want to hog it. Also my cell phone gets NO service AT ALL up here at base so it is pretty much useless to me which is sad. I'm not even sure how often I can get to the internet so it might be fun to get real mail if anyone is bored and into doing things the old fashioned way :)
here is the address just in case :)
